DIANE WAGG

Hello!

This is a shortened version of my story and how I came to be here.  I’d love to hear yours!

I was born loving music and from the age of five spent my pocket money on records and as a young teenager was sneaking out to gigs. By 16, I’d convinced my parents to let me leave school early and, while they were on holiday, found my way into the music business.

My first role was as PA to Nick Mobbs, the A&R and Artist Development Director at EMI Records. Gold for a music obsessed teenager! Late-night gigs and studio sessions, Pink Floyd, Elton John, Queen, Rolling Stone shows and Freddie Mercury birthday parties. The signing of the Sex Pistols, the rise of punk, the cool bands who came afterwards and the arrival of artists like Kate Bush.

My route into artist management followed as PA to Thin Lizzy, then into running Good Earth Studios with legendary producer Tony Visconti, collaborating with artists including David Bowie, The Boomtown Rats, George Michael, Duran Duran and The Stranglers. An extraordinary foundation — creatively, commercially, and globally.

Going freelance, I inadvertently created a 300-strong musician agency by helping my musician friends into recording sessions, world touring bands and TV shows, before moving fully into management.

As co-founder of Rise Management, I spent nearly a decade managing an eclectic and successful roster including Republica, Beth Orton, Rialto and Mike Scott (The Waterboys). From global hits like Ready to Go to Mercury Prize success and international touring, it was a masterclass in both the highs and resilience of the industry.

I later founded Deluxxe and went on to manage Scouting for Girls, guiding them from grassroots gigs to arena tours, major-label success and multi-generational audiences — a journey that perfectly captures how unpredictable and exciting this industry can be.

After years at the top level of artist management, including serving as Chair of the Music Managers Forum, the pandemic became a turning point. Working with Help Musicians, I advised artists across every genre and realised the impact I could have more widely.

Today, through Deluxxe Creative Consultancy, I’m an ‘Artist and Creative Partner’ to artists, songwriters, record producers and the whole range of music professionals and creative entrepreneurs.

I love my creative community from those starting out to working with established freelancers and their businesses. I offer strategic guidance, career and business development.  A sounding board with real-world insight and experience, I provide constant back-up built on decades inside the creative industries. From boardrooms to backstage, global tours to one-to-one mentoring, my passion is now about helping others navigate their own path with clarity, resilience and confidence.

For the full story, I’m soon going to share my anecdotes, behind-the-scenes moments, adventures and lessons learned along the way. In the meantime, there are conversations with music friends in the links below!
